Flyer sizes

In the US, flyers are built on the Letter sheet (8.5 × 11 in), with half-letter (5.5 × 8.5 in) for handouts and tabloid (11 × 17 in) for posters and menus. Everywhere else the ISO A series rules: A4 (210 × 297 mm), A5 (148 × 210 mm) and A6 (105 × 148 mm). Letter is 6 mm wider and 18 mm shorter than A4, so a layout moved between the two needs to be re-flowed, not just scaled.

Japan and Korea also use B5 (182 × 257 mm), but their B series is the Japanese JIS B, not ISO B. ISO B5 is 176 × 250 mm — about 6 mm smaller on each side — so ordering "B5" from a European shop can get you a different sheet. Korean shops often call this size "16-jeol" after the parent sheet it is cut from, even though the parent-sheet division itself measures 197 × 272 mm; the trimmed flyer is 182 × 257 mm.

Bleed conventions follow the region: 0.125 in (3.175 mm) is the US norm, 3 mm is common in Europe and Japan, and Korean online printers usually ask for 1.5 mm. Individual shops also round sizes differently — one large Korean printer trims A5 at 147 mm wide rather than 148 mm — so borders and edge-aligned elements should always be checked against the shop's own template.
